Last night, our very own Rebecca Fromowitz was awarded the Bessie Touzel Award by the Eastern Branch of the Ontario Association of Social Workers. This award recognizes those in the social work profession who have demonstrated leadership, vision and dedication, and contributed significantly to the field.
When accepting the honour, Rebecca paid tribute to the remarkable Bessie Touzel:
“Advocating for social justice isn’t easy and doesn’t always lend itself to popularity. Bessie Touzel was a woman who fought the fight despite great risks and roadblocks. It’s a true honour to receive this award in her name.”
Rebecca also expressed gratitude to her fellow colleagues at JFS and discussed the important role of organizations like ours.
At JFS, our daily work addresses social injustices. We fight for change, advocate on behalf of our clients, and ultimately play a vital role in reducing barriers to accessibility for all communities. As well, we remain innovative and continuously push boundaries, all with a view to giving those on the margins a much-needed voice in society.
