Jewish Family Services believes that every woman and child should be safe in their own home.
You need not deal with violence alone.
We can help.
When
you call to inquire about assistance, please tell the
Intake Worker know that there is abuse taking place so that
you can be assisted quickly and confidentially.
The Shalom Bayit
Project works to create an atmosphere in Jewish Ottawa
that is safe for our families and our children. The
staff and volunteer committee members who run this
program recognize the need to speak out on this serious
issue facing the Jewish community. We seek to educate
all age groups in the community about the need to
ensure healthy relationships based upon mutual respect,
about the signs of domestic abuse and about our individual
and communal obligation to take a stand in families
where abuse is present.
The Shalom Bayit committee
seeks to identify the barriers which prevent women who experience
abuse, from seeking support. The Shalom Bayit staff
also works with local shelters to sensitize their workers to
the cultural and religious needs of Jewish women.
Shalom Bayit seeks to inform, educate, provide resources for, and raise awareness about family violence in the Jewish community.
